Four long years.
When Saji had left Purgatorium, he had been hopefully that he would be able to return. Then, he received news of his sister's death and learnt of her desire to find more information about Celestial Being. Celestial Being had taken away the two people that he held dear - first Louise, and now his only sister.
Four long years. Celestial Being had been reported to be obliterated during Operation Fallen Angels, but that had not lessened his hatred for the organisation, and Gundam.
Four long years, he had not seen Setsuna F. Seiei, nor heard of him. It was as though the Meister had simply disappeared from the surface of the Earth.
Yet now, he was back in Purgatorium - no other place had a plate for a sky. More importantly, Setsuna F. Seiei was standing in front of him. The Meister looked taller and more surly, but there was no mistake.
It was him. Setsuna F. Seiei was in front of him, staring impassively at him.
A chance to avenge his sister and Louise.
As their faces burst into his mind, Saji felt anger rising within him, the sudden rage compelling him to grab his handgun, pointing the weapon at the Gundam Meister. His hands were shaking - was it out of rage? Fear? His fingers remained on the trigger, his eyes trained on Setsuna, watching for any reaction, mentally bracing himself to shoot the younger man if he needed to.
Setsuna hardly flinched when Saji pointed the gun at him. Instead he began to walk towards the civilian, his boots making loud, heavy steps on the concrete ground.
"Don't come near me!!" Saji shouted hoarsely, his heartbeat increasing rapidly, his temples pounding from the mixed, intense emotions.
Yet, Setsuna kept walking, only stopping when he was finally directly in front of Saji, the barrel of Saji's gun touching the left side of his own chest. He reached with a gloved hand, flicking the safety device of the gun off, his maroon eyes seemingly piercing into Saji's soul.
"You wish to shoot me. Do it."
Saji was trembling harder than before. The steady pounding in his hands, was it his own heartbeat, or was he feeling Setsuna's pulse from the gun?
All he had to do was to pull that trigger, and everything would be all right.
The life of Celestial Being's Gundam Meister, in his hands!
He could simply snuff it out, and avenge the lives that were all lost in Celestial Being's misguided attempts at achieving peace.
Setsuna F. Seiei. Setsuna...
Gundam Meister. His lover. The one person he had given his all to. His other.
His half.
Uttering a cry, he dropped the gun, shoving the Meister away. He could not do it. He could not kill Setsuna.
He stared at the ground, his body numb, unfeeling. It was only when Setsuna wrapped his arms around him did he finally react.
Feeling Setsuna's lips on his forehead, and the cold impression of a locket beneath Setsuna's clothes on his own skin, he finally broke down and cried, torn by his hatred for Setsuna's status as a Meister and his affections for the younger man.
Setsuna continued holding his...lover? Ex-lover? He was not sure anymore, after seeing Saji's reactions towards him. Hearing Saji's uncontrollable sobs and weak gasps for air, his heart ached, every sight of Saji's tears piercing him like a dagger. He stayed with the older man, silently allowing him to cry, to vent his frustrations.
Only when Saji finally stopped crying did Setsuna finally move, bringing Saji with him.
.~.
Saji Crossroad was not sure why he was here.
Why was he in Celestial Being's headquarters out of all places? In a Gundam Meister's room, no less.
He could not remembered what exactly had happened last night. He remembered confronting that Meister with a gun, only to mentally crumble and break down.
Had Setsuna F. Seiei brought him here then?
Saji pushed himself off the bed, glancing around the room quickly, taking in his sparse surroundings.
A rabbit cage, its inhabitant enjoying a meal of leafy vegetables.
A desk, and on it were his own handgun and another pistol with some cartridges - they probably belonged to the Meister. There were also memos, scribbled full of information he did not understand. What caught his attention, however, was a necklace, its pendant shaped like a locket.
He recognised it. After all, he was the one who had bought it for...Setsuna. He still had the key to the pendant, which he always wore around his own neck. Even after everything that had happened, after being separated from his lover for so long, he found it impossible to remove the necklace. He felt uncomfortable and incomplete without the necklace, and he felt that if he did not keep up the necklace with him, he would end up forgetting about Setsuna.
Picking up the Meister's necklace and feeling the cool metal against his palm, Saji could not help but wonder if Setsuna had felt the same way.
"You are awake."
Momentarily stunned by the voice as he had not heard anyone entering the room, Saji nearly dropped the necklace out of shock, hastily replacing it on the desk, "A-ah, yes...yes."
Setsuna F. Seiei was standing at the door, topless, a wet towel draped over his shoulder, "Good."
Saji kept his eyes focused on the table, not daring to look at Setsuna F. Seiei in the eye. One part of him was both furious and fearful of the Meister, yet another part of him was joyful at locating his lover again after 4 years.
What should he say to Setsuna? What could he say to him? He had clenched his knuckles so tightly that they had turned cold and clammy and his heart was thumping loudly against his chest.
"... ...status report," it was Setsuna F. Seiei who spoke first.
"I'm all right," Saji replied automatically before he could stop himself. It was a habit which he had developed during his time with Setsuna and it seemed that he had not dropped that habit still. Instantly, he felt himself flush out of embarrassment, the blood rushing to his cheeks, "...ah...I..."
"...you have not changed," Setsuna's voice was softer now, and Saji thought he sounded almost relieved.
Very soon, they were both silent again, though the atmosphere had become notably more relaxed. Setsuna finally stepped into the room, stopping at the desk near Saji. Saji's heart raced as he watched the tanned fingers pick up the necklace.
He had to ask. He needed to know.
"Setsuna," he whispered, the name rolling off his tongue naturally, as though he had never once stopped calling that name, "The locket..."
Setsuna glanced over at Saji, having secured the necklace around his neck.
"Why d-do you-" Saji sucked in a deep breath, finally summoning the courage to ask. Staring at Setsuna directly, he questioned, "The locket. You could have gotten rid of it. There was no guarantee that we would be able to meet again, so why do you still keep the locket with you?"
Setsuna stared back for a moment, his hand closing around the locket, holding it tightly. It was a while before he regarded Saji fully, giving him his reply.
"Because I love you."
Saji's heart seemed to stop for a moment, his eyes widening with shock. By the time he had regained his ability to form words, Setsuna had long headed out of the room.
His mind replaying Setsuna's answer once more, Saji felt his cheeks warm up painfully, another headache gripping him as he tried to come to terms with the fact that a Gundam Meister had just reaffirmed his feelings for him.
Yet, he knew that he was happy that Setsuna still and would continue to reciprocate his love.
Just as a lock and a key complete each other, they were both halves of a complete whole.
