(no subject)

Must be Monday Blues. I'm feeling so damn tired after the weekends. Man, I miss the weekends.

I've kinda decided already. It's 70% Poly choice for me. I really don't see the point in JC anymore. I mean, mugging the same old subjects for two years just to prepare for A levels. Then what next if you can't get a decent grade for the As?

I know my parents won't be happy about this, but really. There's no shame in going to Poly even if I come from some top school. Is it really a top school? Life was so damn boring and pointless. Are the teachers really better in elite schools than neighbourhood schools? I don't know.

My mom thinks that it's easier for you to get a job if you've gone through University because it means you're intelligent and can pick up skills quickly.

Well, I'd rather pick up working skills NOW than to struggle with finding jobs later.

Any second, opposing voice, anyone?

Ja
Tari

PS: Wheeeee...GenX is big love ahaha. There's much drama going around right now. I'm contemplating whether I should let Ming Ming strangle King and get hantam-ed by Brooklyn. I'm contemplating whether I should pick up a second character at Crack Beyblade as well. Yay for RPs. And I haven't done my Maths homework yet.

You know, I'm actually kinda looking forward to getting my Os results as soon as possible. So that I can get out of JCs quickly.

Whatever it is, I'm prepared for a cold war in case my parents oppose to my going to Poly. I'm sorry, but really I'm sure there's much more to education than just memory work, writing essays, or running 5 rounds around the track.

Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but I thought that now you can go to Uni after Poly. =O

Hey, it's better than living a life of regret |D

ganbatte ^_^ i opted to do legal studies or media in temasek poly actually, in case i didn't get a place overseas... jc is good for those who like normal academic schooling

Hm....well Poly is more of going straight to society faster whereas JC, you still get to deicide what you want to do in ur future life.

This matter, you'll have to think about throughly.

For me, I do feel that JC is another waste of 2 years. Why? Because, its like you're learning the the same thing over and over again, only for some is foundation basics.

As for poly, you'll get to learn what you'll need when you step into the society in 2 1/2 years later.

I've kinda decided already. It's 70% Poly choice for me. I really don't see the point in JC anymore. I mean, mugging the same old subjects for two years just to prepare for A levels. Then what next if you can't get a decent grade for the As?
Well, its partly true that you waste 2 years just to prepare A's and get a lousy cert if you don't do well. Hm.....to some courses, they might need the A's cert so thats why.

There's no shame in going to Poly even if I come from some top school. Is it really a top school? Life was so damn boring and pointless. Are the teachers really better in elite schools than neighbourhood schools? I don't know.
I have to say something about this. xDxD ITS 100% TRUE that there is no shame in coming to poly, if you're from a top school. Top school doesn't mean that elites come out from there. Myabe your parent's mindset are that they think top school produces elites students huh. Well, I disagree with that totally. Neighbourhood schools can also produce elites. I won't say that I'm a elite, but I can tell you, I can do better than some students in those top schools okie?! xDxD *apologises* I do agree that life in JC is definately boring, to me @ least. I didn't like it there too @ first, so I came to Poly.

My mom thinks that it's easier for you to get a job if you've gone through University because it means you're intelligent and can pick up skills quickly.
Wow, something to comment on your mum's mindset now. xDxD I think she's quite 'ancient' bah. Still having this type of thinking. Well, my grandparents are the same too. And I can tell you that NO!!!!! University doesn't mean that the person is blardy intelligent and can pick up a job easily and also get a job quick! NO NO NO!! That is TOTALLY WRONG!!!!! University is only a name to give students their Honours only, where as for Poly, is diploma which is a lower grade than Honours, but still, if you don't get the honours, that it lah. As for the job thingy, I can tell you, even University Studentes have to work as hawker okie? There is news on this article before. I think if you can, find the article and show to your mum and prove her wrong. I can tell you, now companies are more than willing to employ poly students. Why? Coz the market rate for fresh grad poly students is cheap and that is why they employ them when they come out. Not only that, companies will rather take the cheaper one with better CCA reviews than other students. xDxD

Okie, said my piece~ xDxD Come to NP!!! xDxD The Life Sciences there still okie lah~ xDxD

Well, nobody said that poly is for stupid people. So if you choose poly, go for it then ^^

It's up to you where you want to study but don't stress yourself. =D

[identity profile] nekomiao.livejournal.com 2006-02-06 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
It really is up to you and what you want to do with yourself. A lot of university students can't find a job until a year after they graduate because workplaces are employing people not only with credentials but also work experience. Many graduates are finding themselves needing to work below their graduate skills because they don't have the workplace skills.

Also there are quite a few people I know who are earning more than graduates and they didn't go to university at all. Personally I took two years off of school to work full time. I worked in a bakery and had a blast while doing it and now am back in school trying to get back into university. The two years off were great and now I'm back on track.

Look if you're really bored you're probably going to get bad grades because you're not interested. The people who get the best grades are either born geniuses or they're really interested and thus try really hard at school. Sometimes all you need is a break, work a few jobs to find what you really like to do and then when you have a goal in life you'll do much better in school. But yes, it's always up to the parents in the end but sometimes all you need to do is sit them down, make them actually listen to what you say and explain everything very carefully.

From experience, parents usually back down and understand if you can provide a detailed plan to prove you actually thought everything out and you're not just being lazy. If they can see that you have an idea of what you want to do but you just need to do it differently than school=> school => work people they start thinking "Wah, she's grown up." But that's usually the parents around my area here in Australia. Though we all started from the same region yea? =D Good luck.

Whichever way u take,u have already considered ur path.Going to poly is also another alternative way to go uni also,IMO,it's more carefree and liberal.

Best of luck in ur exams!Since u are so smart already,dun worry larhz.

nothing wrong with poly. i feel it's just the way the previous generation was brought up. back then, poly, i suppose, was horrible, and a place only dropouts ended up in. but it's changed a lot. our poly diplomas are now apparently on the same standing as a level certs for admittence into overseas universitys.

what course are you interested in, anyway??

but, as an ex-MG girl, trust me, there have been 6-pointers who choose to go to JC. you aren't alone.

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah you can. xD But it's a lot harder to get into NUS than NTU, apparently. My parents would rather I go to NUS, because of the prestige.

Yes, it's SO MUCH better. D: Now, there's just so much pressure on me going to JC bleh.

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
And I've grown sick of normal academic schooling, to say the truth. =_=;; I'm opting to do digital media design courses in either Ngee Ann or Nanyang Poly xD

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
If my parents let me through, I'd surely do it. ^^;

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, darling! XD

[identity profile] summer88.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
But my side of view is actually the same as your parents, and especially now that you've gotten quite a good score :3

If your aim is a uni, JC is always the better choice.

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
You're right in that you can go to Uni after Poly, but my parents would like me to go NUS, it seems. And they say it's easier to get into NUS if you've goen to JC.

Haha, Smart doesn't equal good grades. xD Must put in effort too.

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm interested in doing Digital Media design lol. xDDD And apparently my parents still don't think so. >>;;

8D!! You should share with me some of their success stories. More examples to sway my parents lmao.

[identity profile] kiradyn-rhiode.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
oooooooh, dmd!!! i might have transferred into that course if my mom had given me the chance. -.-

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of university students can't find a job until a year after they graduate because workplaces are employing people not only with credentials but also work experience.
Yeah, and that's not what I want. I'd rather pick up work skills during school and then find a job within a shorter period of time instead. xD

Look if you're really bored you're probably going to get bad grades because you're not interested.
Damn straight. I've been meaning to tell my parents that I probably won't be able to cope at all since it's really stressful [and I SUCK at writing essay answers]. But they keep saying that they have confidence that I can managed. What if I foul somewhere and end up with a really bad score?? =_=;

That being said, thank you so much for your opinions!! ^^ Appreciate it muchly~ <3

[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Top school doesn't mean that elites come out from there. Myabe your parent's mindset are that they think top school produces elites students huh. Well, I disagree with that totally. Neighbourhood schools can also produce elites.
Totally agree. It's the teachers and students that determine the academic performance of the school, in my opinion. If the students are motivated to study hard and the teachers can motivate them, then the school can produce top students. Heck, if the good teachers can be equally distributed among the schools, they'll have more or less the same kind of academic performance. >XD

I can tell you, now companies are more than willing to employ poly students. Why? Coz the market rate for fresh grad poly students is cheap and that is why they employ them when they come out. Not only that, companies will rather take the cheaper one with better CCA reviews than other students.
Here's what my mom thinks haha. University students with beautiful academic and cca records are more likely to get better jobs than Poly people who's never gone to Uni before.
That's why, she prefers for me to go JC, so that it's easier to get to NUS next time. o_O;;

Well, that being said. I think I've decided to go for JC after all. ^^;; Because of my father, yep. :)
