I used up my brains for yesterday's test. Mind you, I didn't get to finish the test. :| I barely scraped my last question. Passing is no problem, but whether I can get a distinction is another matter.

Randomly, Setsuna says "nakama ga matteru" when Marina helps him back to the 00 Raiser. What's the English equivalent for 'nakama'?

'Comrade' sounds strange, and communist-ish.
'Friend' sounds too simple, and informal.
~~'Ally' sounds HUGE. Like, you'd probably say "Celestial Being and Katharon are allies". But would you say that "Lockon is my ally"? My dictionary says yes, but it doesn't sound right. :|~~ Seems like 'ally's an acceptable translation!
'Associate'? Sounds too formal and more appropriate in a business setting.
'Companion'?

I guess when the word 'ally' is mentioned, I get the image of countries and entire factions instead of single individuals. XD

Yeah, it just means you're on the same side. Soldiers can be allies, countries can be allies.

The word always reminds me of the quote, "The enemy of my enemy is my ally." because you're both working against the same person/group, so you have the same goal in mind. You're allies.

Although, if they're closer than just a professional 'on the same side' sort of thing, then ... friend would probably work better. Also, uh... comrade I believe is just another word for friend? It's ... not English in origin, so I always thought it meant the same thing.

Well, I used ally as opposed to friend in this particular instance because I was ... trying to demonstrate the difference between ally being 'on the same side as' having a common goal. and friendship, itself.

But yeah. I don't ... know why, I hear both around here.
